Le printemps - enfin

Le printemps - enfin.
Par de timides touches
de rayons chauds
le soleil a ramolli
les couronnes enneigées.

Jour après jour,
leur reflet blanc
doucement s'évanouit.
Le trésor froid du sommet
pousse les rivières à grossir.

Le vent du sud,
des plaines aux cîmes,
chasse le vilain temps.
Vers les halles vertes des bois
les oiseaux en nombre retournent.

Des montagnes
j'entends la brise chuchoter,
les eaux appeler:
Quitte la poussière de la ville!
Fuis son vacarme!

Les tentateurs sèment
de douloureux désirs
dans mon coeur.
Alors, je murmure à moi-même:
Je viens, bientôt, je viendrais.

Spring at last

Spring at last.
With timid strokes
of warm rays

the Sun has softened
the highest snowcaps.

Day after day,
now their white reflection
slowly fades.
The summit's cold treasure
makes the rivers swell.

The Southwind
from plains to mountain-tops
is chasing the bad weather.
To the forests' green halls
the birds are returning.

From the mountains
I hear the breeze whisper,
the waters calling:
Leave the town's dust!
Fly from its clamours!

The tempterers sow
painful longing
into my heart.
Then I murmur to myself:
I come, soon, I shall come.
